Benefit Cheats In The Houses Of Parliament
The governments own website at direct.gov.uk makes a big thing about benefit cheats and how they are wanting to hear about anyone who claims benefits but takes advantage of the system of benefits the taxpayer funds.
There is a phone number where you can report people who are taking the money that is supposed to be there to help the poor so if you know someone who earns an extra £10 a week to treat their kids or they share their home with someone who cares about them and helps them feel a little happier with life then the government would like you to report them so they can, potentially, be sent to jail.
“What is benefit fraud?
Benefit theft is when someone lies to get benefit. This includes people who are:
- not reporting they are now living with a partner
- not reporting they are receiving other benefits
- not reporting any savings or not reporting the right amount
- claiming for children who have left home
- not reporting they have started work, or started to earn money
- not reporting they have inherited money
- not reporting they are going abroad, living abroad, or have changed address”
We have all heard a great deal about some very serious benefit cheats in recent months. Not content with earning the extra tenner they have ripped off the system to the tune of thousands, if not millions, of pounds of money that should have been going to help the poor people of this country or helped pay for equipment for our troops or helped the taxpayers survive the problems of the recession. Money has been taken from the taxpayer under false pretences. Taxes that may have been grudgingly given but done so in the belief that whether you agree with the government or not it was being spent to try to make the world a better place.
Sadly we discovered it was not. Rather than being used to make the world a better place it was being used to make the lives of MPs better at the expense of poor struggling families. The benefit cheats in the Houses of Parliament were caught with their hands in the till having used their privileges to enter your home and your wallet, they proceeded to mug you and left you on the floor bleeding and wondering why the law doesn’t protect us from these people.
Thankfully we can rely on the honesty and and decency of our Members Of Parliament and when found taking money to which they were not entitled the cheats and thieves offered to pay it back. Like all honest criminals they said, “It’s a fair cop guv” and proceeded to repay the stolen money and want us to think that everything is ok.
So if you know a benefit cheat you can call the 0800 number on the benefit cheats website and if you are a benefit cheat you might like to call and report yourself but there is no need to waste any government employees time with all that checking and investigating. If you are a benefit cheat and you have realised you might get caught with your hand in the till we now have the precedent of honourable members of the houses of parliament proving that it is ok to cheat as long as you pay the money back when you get caught.
All you have to do is write a cheque and pay the money back and even the Prime Minister will say what an honourable and decent person you are because you realised you had made a mistake and you corrected it and everything will be ok.
Guido Fawkes has been merciless in his criticism of the MPs with their snouts in the trough and blogged about a campaign to see Jaqui Smith in court to face charges of milking the system of benefits for MPs expenses. You can sign up and donate money to the cause at the sunlight website and read more about why they think it is right that Jaqui Smith should face charges here…
