Berwick Upon Tweed Wants To Be Scottish
A poll carried out for the Tonight programme to be broadcast on ITV1 on Monday at 8.30pm found that 60% of the residents of Berwick Upon Tweed who responded to the poll were in favour of the town becoming a part of Scotland once again.
The reasons given varied but were generally due to the fact that people feel that residents of Scotland a better treated that residents in England.
We should be too surprised by this. Scotlands residents get free university education and free personal health care for the elderly. The general perception in England is that Scotland cares more for it’s citizens and listens to what people want. Whether this is true remains to be seen but perceptions are what people vote on, facts tend to be too confusing.
This is why we live in an age of spin. Life is to fast for us to spend the time it would take to fully understand a subject so we rely on a few paragraphs in a newspaper or a one minute report on the tv news. So it is little surprise that the residents of Berwick Upon Tweed want to be a part of Scotland.
It is more than likely that if the whole of England was polled a significant number of the electorate would like England to be a part of Scotland too. We already have a Scottish Prime Minister so maybe it wouldn’t be such a huge step for England to become part of Scotland.
