I was never a fan of Gordon Brown. Both as Chancellor and as Prime Minister he left me feeling unmoved and uninterested. He may be terrific fun if real life but as a politician seen on TV he seemed wooden and uninteresting. He must have had many fans and supporters to make it to be PM but come the election few seemed eager to give him more time and there he was gone.
You will no doubt see headlines stating that GB has earned £1.4 million since leaving office. What is particularly interesting is that none of that money has gone to Gordon Brown or his family. All additional earnings beyond his salary as a Member of Parliament are given to the various charities he has set up or supports. Well done Gordon.
It turns out that not only does he manage on his MP salary alone he also renounced the pension he was entitled to as an ex-Prime Minister. 10 out of 10 for Gordon Brown as a man. he is an example to all those Bankers and City business types who scramble around and crawl over anybody and anything to make a buck.
I still wouldn’t want him back as PM but he is obviously a decent man and deserves respect for sticking to his principles. Now what can we do about his predecessor on the £12 million a year that Tony Blair is said to be earning on the speaking and advising circuit. I wonder.
