Labour Might Have Won Without Gordon Brown As Leader
The result of the election has left us in a fascinating situation. Nobody knew who was going to win the election and nobody did win. Now we are left wondering what the shape of the new government will be but talks between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservative Party seem to be progressing in a positive and constructive manner.
It is remarkable that the Tories didn’t achieve more success in the election. With such an unpopular Prime Minister the Labour party never stood a chance of winning but they did still do remarkably well not to be completely wiped out. It begs the question of what might have happened if the Labour party had held a proper leader election rather than just letting GB force his way into the position he believed he was born to hold. I suspect that with Alan Johnson or David Milliband leading the party Labour would have held on to power.
Now we have to look to a future where a coalition of Liberal Democrat and Tories can find a way to work together. It is not likely to be easy as both parties have members who would rather lose the opportunity rather than work together but David Cameron and Nick Clegg are showing statesmanlike behavior and hopefully they can find a way.
This will be a new era of politics and it could well be exactly what the country needs at a time of great financial difficulty. Great minds in two parties working together may help bring us through these difficult times and prove co-operation is much better than one party in an electoral dictatorship.
