Liberal Democrats Play Hardball
Before the election there were plenty of people who talked of the Liberal Democrats as wimpy leftish hippy types who were like straw that blew in the wind. The one thing that has been proven by the talks being held over recent days is that the Liberal Democrats can play hardball when they get the chance.
I suspect that having seen what the Tories were prepared to offer the party wanted to see what the Labour Party could offer as an alternative deal. It always seemed an unlikely arrangement as the numbers are not enough but they have now gone through the motions which will satisfy the left of the Liberal Democrats.
A coalition with the Tories now looks more than likely and wih the Liberal Democrats now more focused and able to provide a restraining hand on the shoulder of the more right wing areas of Tory policy we might be facing a more reasonable and fair government than we have had in recent years.
