Members Of Parliament Second Home Expenses Claims

Once again a Member Of Parliament is in the firing line over expenses claimed for a second home. Once more the public feel outraged and most likely, once again, there will be an inquiry and nothing much will happen.

Both the government and MPs constantly complain that they are held in such low regard by the public. There is no doubt that most MPs are hardworking, decent people trying to do their best for the country and their constituents but stories such as these always make the public angry and the government and MPs should take note.

Just as the banker’s bonus payments have incensed the nation, so it is with politicians expenses claims. When a Member of Parliament is able to claim as much in a year for their second home as many people earn people are bound to ask whether this practice is either fair or reasonable.

MPs have a difficult job and for many their homes are hundreds of miles away from London but do they really need to maintain a second home at the expense of the taxpayer?

Many people have to work away from home for most of the week and most of those manage well enough using either a Bed and breakfast establishment or a small hotel. We are entitled to ask Members of Parliament to justify these enormous expense claims on second homes and ask whether they should have the facility at all.
