We often hear politicians bemoaning the fact that the public are so cynical of politics and politicians so you would think they would try to avoid giving the electorate yet more reasons to see how they tell us to do one thing while they hypocritically do something different themselves.

According to politics.co.uk the government have made special amendments to the smoking ban to allow the gathering at the G20 conference to be exempt from the ban.

So, it seems that Gordon Brown and his henchmen take the view that while it is bad for the electorate and normal tourists to smoke inside public buildings it is perfectly ok for members and officials to smoke in certain bars at the G20 conference.

Perhaps we should applaud this admission that the blanket smoking ban was unfair and unreasonable so well done Gordon for admitting it was wrong in principle and unfair in practice. Now get on and make the same arrangements available for all bars, and social clubs throughout England. It’s good to know you can stand up and admit you were wrong to support such a draconian and unjust blanket ban.

Hypocrisy s not acceptable so let us see the government treat everyone the same on this and other issues.
